What is Crucible Lifestyle?
Crucible Lifestyle is the natural evolution, growth and merging of several entities that have been residing in our club for a few years now. To know what the Crucible Lifestyle is, it is necessary to see where we came from and where we are going.
The History
The Crucible was first opened in 2000 as a sex positive play space for the BDSM community. A few years later we were approached by and became the home of DC Starz (formerly Capital Couples), a lifestyle nightclub event that has been hosting in the DC area for 40 years now. After about a year hosting on-premise events for DC Starz, The Crucible ended up buying DC Starz as we shifted our focus to a broader sex positive community.
Around that time a group of folks contracted with The Crucible to start hosting events for Rites of Bacchus. Unlike anything else that had been done in the DC area, ROBE started out with the over-the-top, high end production Bacchanalia’s featuring a myriad of erotic touring performance acts, large on-premise play areas and the ever popular “live sex show”. ROBE wanted to branch out and began to do Artroticas, a lower key but just a sexy mix of an erotic art gallery show and play party. Additionally they added a number of smaller workshops (Intro to Swinging, The Happy Penis, etc.) which added an educational component to ROBE. After several years, ROBE was also brought into The Crucible fold, further broadening our sex positive community diversity.
During this period of time, The Crucible venue has grown and changed dramatically. Originally a fairly wide open warehouse with not much allure, a series of projects have added a mezzanine level, additional bathrooms, private play rooms, refurbished and expanded bar, nightclub lighting, improved audio, improved street view and parking. The venue bears little resemblance to the space that the Lifestyle community was first exposed to years ago.
The Now
The history of The Crucible, Rites of Bacchus and DC Starz has brought us to a crossroads. We are no longer the little BDSM club, but a fully sex positive community venue serving all aspects of the scene. As part of that we are creating a unified Lifestyle experience under the new Crucible Lifestyle name. Crucible Lifestyle is the rolling together of DC Starz, Rites of Bacchus as well as Crucible events hosted by outside promoters geared toward the Lifestyle community. We intend to take the best of what came before, get rid of the worst of it and move toward the future always aware of where we came from.
The Future
Moving forward all of our Lifestyle geared events will be under the Crucible Lifestyle brand. We will host a variety of events, some monthly, some a few times a year and we will keep our commitment to having an educational component. We will have Nightclub style events, Meet & Greet style events, Artrotica styled events, Daytime events, larger production events and we will continue to bring you Erotic Performances from the worlds of music, dance, film and the written word. We think you will love the new Crucible Lifestyle – Something for everyone….
